A south Texas native born in San Antonio, Texas, R. L. Sloan lives in the beautiful city of San Antonio with her husband and daughter. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master’s of Arts Degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Hi Folks,

I just wanted to let you know that if you're looking for me, you can find me here on my blog. A fan wrote me, wondering what happened to my Facebook page. I removed it. I hated to do that, because I loved my Facebook page, but it was easier to keep one location to reach out to fans.

I know others have told me about the headaches they have faced from their employers about posts on Facebook. It seems we sometimes get judged all the time about one thing or another.

Have any of you experienced any negative fall out from your employer about your activity on social networks? What did you do about it?

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I remember when I was younger during the Christmas holiday, my cousins and I would have a sleep over at my grandparents house. Those were the best Christmas Eves'. We would dance to The Jackson 5 "Dancing Machine", eat Christmas cookies, and laugh with snaggle toothed smiles all in hopes of catching a glimpse of Santa Claus.

What are some of your favorite Christmas memories? Were you bleary eyed from staying up all night as a kid waiting for Santa? Did you secretly break into the presents under the tree and then quickly lie and tell your parents it was a burglar that came through the window to look at Your Cabbage Patch baby?

What laughs did you share? Share a few memories with me so I can laugh tonight :)

Believe me I will, it's just that this is the time of year my favorite authors on my bookshelf seem to start cranking out their goodies for me, and I can't help but jump from book to book.

Good Morning America in San Antonio, Texas Today

Thank you so much Good Morning America for broadcasting live from our romantic Riverwalk. For those of you who are fans of Embellish, the San Antonio Riverwalk is one of the places the lovely Solis Burkes and the devastatingly handsome vampire Nacio Puente fell in love with each other.

Good Morning America was here this morning with Sam Champion reporting live. He was able to do the countdown for flipping the switch at our Holiday Lighting Ceremony. The entire Riverwalk was set aglow with thousands of miniature Christmas lights. It's one of my favorite places and one of many of our city's pride and joy.

If you missed the broadcast, well just read Embellish and the scenery will feed your mind as if you were there on the Riverwalk this morning. For those of you that caught the broadcast, just wait and see what the city looks like during Fiesta.

2010 AAMBC National Conference

The 2010 AAMBC National Event is gearing up for another awesome time. This year we headed off the national event in San Antonio and on June 12, 2010 we take it to the mid-west in Chicago, Illinois. This year we are sure to please with all new themes and featured authors and book signings. Authors such as Tina Brooks McKinney, Pamela Samuel Young, Earl Sewell, Gwynneth Foster, Terra Little , and Shawna Hill have been announced the featured authors for the 2010 conference. National Best Seller Naleighna Kai will be the Key Note Speaker and also signing her books. Also you will have the opportunity to meet twelve attending authors ranging from Christian, romance, street, and poetry.

The day will kick off with a welcoming break fast, and then the doors open for the largest book signing of the day. Following the attending authors signings the featured authors will be meeting in the reserved rooms for Chocolate Chats and Book Discussions. Also there will be awesome vendors and make over’s provided by Kreatvie Looks. Just added to the list of event is the book club meeting with the founder Tamika Newhouse.

Next year there will be all sorts of goodies and giveaways and the launching of the AAMBC T Shirts and Bags. The best part is AAMBC still plans to bring you a twist with showcasing more independent authors then most of the book festival today.

The day will continue on with the Book Lover’s Dinner and the Keynote Speaker will announce the winners of the 2010 AAMBC Literary Awards. Wait... the fun will finally end with two full hours of poetry for the soul hosted by one of Chicago Lands own.

I've appreciated all of the feedback that I have received about Embellish. Really I have. The thing you will learn about me is that I approach writing in the same way I like to have a story narrated to me, and that is with characters and language that are genuine and sincere.

I was blessed to have known some of the greatest story narrators in my lifetime. Heck, they were my relatives. These narrators were so great at the art of storytelling, that you were either in need of an electric blanket for your rib cage from laughing so hard or you needed an entire box of tissue to dry your eyes.

Yes, many of us are able to write according to standard proper English, the way a dictionary says to, the way a thesaurus says to, or any other way that Writing Software might dictate to us. The thing about that is, we don't necessarily speak to each other that way nor do we have thought patterns in that manner, so isn't it hypocritical to judge all writing that way? I mean, if we all wrote according to the digital software that's available, the majority of the paranormal writing styles would appear the same. None of the stories would be fresh or unique.

3 B West is another project I've completed, and will be published next month. Again, I did not set out to write an APA styled story, but I solemnly promise to proofread and edit the text thoroughly. If I'd wanted a perfectly written dissertation, I would have accepted an invitation to pursue a Doctorate degree.

We're all prone to mistakes and goodness knows I'm prone to making mistakes everyday. My goal in mind will always be to entertain, thrill, and creep you out.

When I pick up a book from my favorite genre, I want it to carry me deep into the story. I want to know the characters so well that I can either consider them as neighbors, family members, or deadly enemies. Those are the books I like to keep on my shelf.

When I read a story, I critique it according to how deeply it made me explore my emotions. Did it make me cry? Was I angry? Did I laugh? Was I so scared I had to sleep with the lights on? Those of you that enjoyed Embellish, I plan to keep you either scared as heck, fighting mad, or at the drugstore purchasing boxes of tissue.

It's been said that if you don't write according to proper English, you will be considered untrustworthy, ignorant, or worse totally illiterate. I don't believe this to be true. What do you think?

Please tell me I'm not the only cartoon fan left in the world? I still love Scooby Doo and Shaggy (the original episodes from 1969), not the ones with Scrappy. He talks too much, and his shoulders don't look like they have enough room to hold his over-sized head.

It is pouring down here in San Antonio. I just came back from sloshing around out there in the dreary stuff. I've started writing a short story that is purely horror. Who knows, it might lead to who new series! It's a creepy crawler sort of book, something you would read to someone during a spectacular lightening storm.

Guess the rain prompted me to reach for my pen!

Met someone who reminded me of Childress Treemount

I'm not crazy, but if I had the opportunity to write a movie script for Embellish, I promise you I just met someone who looked like Childress Treemount. She of course is the villainess in Embellish. I told a friend of mind and she laughed and said well you just might be on to something.

I think Rick Fox would be a great Nacio Puente, he's the vampire. Who knows maybe I'll meet Mr. Fox. If anyone knows him or knows how to contact him, let him know he would be great. He wouldn't even have to audition!!!!

I just finished trying on an absolutely gorgeous Halloween costume with a Wicked Black two foot vampire collar. I can't wait. I will be performing Michael Jackson's THRILLER on Oct. 30th at a luncheon! I ordered a Marie Antoinette wig to go with it. I will be Mistress of Ceremonies...so have to play the part.

I had my Podcast interview recorded last week, and I really enjoyed it! I love doing character voice impressions and Sarah at WITS allowed me to do my impression of Dr. Kross Malveaux from my book Embellish.

Dr. Malveaux is the prison psychiatrist of the villainess Childress Treemount, and boy does he have his work cut out for him during the session with her.

WOW is all I can say!

An excerpt of Embellish was taken and made into a stage play. It was awesome!! When it was time for Nacio to hit the stage, the ladies swooned. He literally rolled on to the set in a smoky fog bank that set the mood in the cozy little decades old theatre house. WOW you should have been there!!!

The next showing will be Sunday August 23, 2009 @ 6:30pm at the Josephine Street Dinner theatre. Hope to see you there!

Running around like a headless chicken

Hi Folks,

An excerpt of Embellish has been turned into a play, and today was one of many play practices. Today the stage director was giving me feedback on the narration of the book. She is extremely dramatic, and a perfectionist. I was exhausted after my efforts to meet her standards.

There will be two performances, one tomorrow and one next Sunday at the Josephine Street Dinner playhouse here in San Antonio. The stage director is expecting a pretty big turnout--we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Well, gotta run...straight to sleep that is. I'll post soon.
